On the 31st of January 2011, Siya-Bengezela teamed up with SHAWCO and gave 25 disposable cameras to twelve-year old kids from the Nyanga Township near Cape Town. After a little bit of learning about photography and a dash of inspiration the children set off with 24 exposures and 48hrs to photograph the angels living in their community. Their works tell vibrant stories of joy and hope against the backdrop of one of South Africa’s most challenged communities. The Angels of Nyanga project empowers these township kids to raise funds for their education and community development. Full proceeds of the limited edition prints will go back to the community, administered and implemented by SHAWCO in Cape Town.
